High-Speed Broadband is Coming to South Kerry – National Broadband Ireland
Construction is now well underway to deliver high-speed broadband to over 1,800 homes, farms, and businesses in South Kerry, with areas like Waterville, Ballinskelligs, Emlagh, and surrounding townlands
getting connected by the end of the year. This is part of the National Broadband Plan (NBP) – the largest investment in rural Ireland since the days of rural electrification.

Targeting South Kerry First
The initial phase of the rollout in Kerry is focused on some of the most picturesque (and remote) parts of the county – Waterville, Ballinskelligs, and Emlagh – areas long underserved by fast internet. Whether it’s a local café, a family farm, or a remote-working household, all will soon benefit from minimum speeds of 500 Mbps, thanks to the work of National Broadband Ireland (NBI).
Timeline: Connections by Year-End
Construction is currently in full swing, with the first connections in South Kerry expected to go live before the end of 2025. That means faster internet is just months away for many locals.
And this is just the start – it’s part of a broader push to connect a total of 28,000 premises in Kerry’s designated intervention area.

The NBP represents a €107 million investment in Kerry alone.
It’s the biggest infrastructure investment in rural Ireland since electricity was brought to the countryside.

The intervention area refers to locations where commercial broadband providers have not and will not deliver high-speed services. That’s where NBI steps in – to ensure everyone has equal access to modern digital infrastructure, regardless of their location.
